Etymology 2

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean  (Yale: cèk), from Proto-Koreanic *cenki, hence, speculatively connected to Proto-Japonic *təki (time) (whence Japanese (toki, time)), presumably via an ancient Koreanic borrowing into Proto-Japonic (Vovin, 2010 pp. 163-164).
