From archaic and now chiefly dialectal (Arbëresh) budhë + -zë (collective suffix), from Proto-Albanian *budzā, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰudʰmḗn (“bottom”); compare Lithuanian budė̃ (“tree-fungus”), bùdė (“whetstone”),[1] Sanskrit बुध्न (budhna), Ancient Greek πυθμήν (puthmḗn, “bottom”), Latin fundus (“bottom, piece of land, farm”). Lent Romanian buză.
