Etymology

From Pali pallaṅka (couch; sofa); probably via Old Khmer °pallaṅa, pālaṃṅa (throne). Compare Lao ບັນລັງ (ban lang), Modern Khmer បល្លង្ក (pallang), បល្ល័ង្ក (pallang); Sanskrit पल्यङ्क (palyaṅka), पर्यङ्क (paryaṅka).
