From Proto-Tai *ɗajꟲ (“to obtain”). Cognate with Lao ໄດ້ (dai), Northern Thai ᨯᩱ᩶, Lü ᦺᦡᧉ (ḋay²), Shan လႆႈ (lāi), Tai Dam ꪼꪒ꫁, Zhuang ndaej. Compare Sui qdyais (“to get, to obtain”), Southern Kam lis (“to get”), Proto-Hlai *ɗɯː (“to get”).

ได้ • (dâai) (abstract noun การได้)

1. to get; to obtain; to receive.

   อยากได้รางวัลชนะเลิศ

2. (auxiliary) used before a verb to indicate that one has done or has an opportunity to do the action.
