Letter of complaint
Dear Sir / Madame
I?m writing to complain about the suggested ban on smoking in public places. I?m a waitress in Insomnia , a well-known restaurant , which attracts constantly a lot of visitors.
I would like to express my strong discontent with this proposal, for a number of reasons. First of all, I don?t understand why it is being forced through without any warning. The decision was made so unexpectedly that people did not have time to get accustomed to it. Secondly, it is laughable to prohibit smoking in outdoor public places ? from my point of view it is completely unfeasible. Nevertheless, it is a common belief that there is a larger number of people who are addicted to cigarettes than those who are not cigarette?s abuse , so the government should not discriminate the smoking majority that form the society. Every citizen has a right to decide about his or her personal decisions, so the ban of smoking would be a limitation of personal freedom and an interference into a privacy zone.
To support my arguments , I would like to illustrate the situation in my home town after an attempt at bringing the ban of smoking into effect. It failed, and the politician had to reverse their decision. In the first place, hardly anyone become aware of the law. Of course, most businesses objected the idea. There were only a few restaurants which complied with this non- smoking regulation but they also finally rejected after suffering a loss of permanent clients. If the same thing happened here, I could lose my position.
As a suggestion, why not encourage workplaces to create separate non- smoking areas instead of introducing the ban , which would cause so many negative effects ?
Your faithfully
