Derived from the unattested root *in- and cognate to *in-gen (“female camel”).
Akin to Khitan 𘭌 (*uni, “ox”) and Proto-Mongolic *ünixen (“cow”), compare Mongolian үнээ (ünee). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
