Etymology
- Borrowed from Proto-Germanic *kaldingaz (“?”), from *kaldaz (“cold”) + *-ingaz or *kaldijǭ. The word is only attested in toponyms Käldinge (literally “der Quellenort”), Källinge (< källa), Danish Kolding, Kalding. Also compare Finnish kaltio (“spring”), Old Norse kelda (“spring”), Danish kilde (“spring”).
