The Beatles were the most popular band of the 60?s. The four members, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr were all born in Liverpool, England. Their first record, ?Love Me Do? came out on 5th October, 1962.
By 1964, The Beatles were famous all over the world. Everywhere they went, thousands of fans ? boys and girls ? followed them. In 1965, The Beatles performed at Shea Stadium in New York to a crowd of 55,000 screaming fans. It was the largest live concert in history.
The Beatles gave their last performance on 30th January, 1969, on top of the Apple building in London. In 1970, the band decided to split up. Paul made a new band called ?Wings?; John?s new band was called ?The Plastic Ono Band?. Both Ringo and George followed solo careers.
John Lennon died in 1980. One of his fans shot him outside his home in New York. In the end, The Beatles became legends. Their music touched many people?s hearts and even today they still have millions of fans all over the world!
Elton John was one of the biggest pop superstars of the ?70s. He was born in 1947, and was called Reginald Kenneth Dwidht. He changed his name to Elton John in 1966. He could play the piano when he was four. When he was eleven, he went to the Royal Academy of Music.
He joined his first band, ?Bluesology?, in 1961.
He gave his first American concert in August 1970, in Los Angeles. Between 1972 and 1976, Elton John had sixteen Top 20 hits, including ?Rocket Man?, ?Crocodile Rock? and ?Daniel?. He wrote ?Candle in the Wind? in 1973 and rewrote it in 1997 when Princess Diana died. Elton John also wrote the songs for ?The Lion King? in 1994. Elton John?s songs are still very popular today. He is one of the richest singers in the world and he?s famous for the colourful costumes he wears on stage.

Annie Lennox was born in 1954 in Scotland; Dave Stewart was born in 1952 in the north of England.
As a child, Annie played the piano and flute, then went on to
train at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Dave learned to play the guitar when he was twelve. He broke his leg playing soccer and someone brought a guitar to the hospital for him!
Dave and Annie met in the ?70s. At first, they called their group ?The Tourists?. They renamed the group ?Eurythmics? in the ?80s and had their first hit with ?Love is a Stranger?. Many big hits followed, including ?Sweet Dreams?, ?Who?s That Girl? and ?Here Comes the Rain Again?
Annie Lennox began a solo career in 1992. Her album ?Diva? sold over 2 million copies. Dave Stewart formed a bank called ?Spiritual Cowboys? as well as producing records and writing music for films.
In 1998, Dave and Annie played together again for a charity concert. In 1999, they received a special award at the Brits Award ceremony. It was their 11th Brit Award! Also in the same year, they released a new album, ?Peace? and did a successful world tour. Twenty years after they first began, Eurythmics are still as popular as ever!
