Dear Agnes!
Thanks very much for you letter. I’m sorry I haven’t written so long, but I’ve been very busy preparating for holydays. From occasion Christmas I wish you many presents, superbly spend Christmas, many joy in New Year and successful the New Year’s Eve.
Because the Christmas Eve is tomorrow I’m writening you, how we spend holidays in Poland.
Christmas is a time when we try to forget our problems and spend this time in a peace and happiness. People spend Christmas time with families, because the atmosphere is wonderful and very nice. The kids are decorating the Christmas Tree and play with the carp which is in bath. We wait all day long and start eating when the first star appears in the sky. There are traditional Christmas dishes for example:
ravidi with cabbage and mushrooms, carp with potatoes, herring in cream, croquettes, red borsch and cabbage and cabbage with mushrooms.
The most important thing in Christmas is sharing a wafer, reading the Bible and singing Christmas carols. On our table is additional empty plate for on unexpected guest and hay is put under the white table-cloth. Some people share wafer with animals. They are believed to be able to speak with human voice at midnight. All the children are unable to wait for opening their presents. On the Christmas Eve at midnight adults do to church and children go to sleep.
Next in first and second Christmas Day people going to church. Later we are eating holiday-breakfast. My favorite dishes are vegetable salad and very good cakes: poppy-seed cake and cheese cake.
It is everything. Now you write me, how you spend Christmas in England.
Hope to see you very soon.
Lots of love,
