Lies - are they justified?

Lying indicates an absence of truth. Lying is a distortion of the facts, as we know them. And, yes, we usually do know the truth when we lie, or enough of it that we should feel guilty about spinning a tale. We all are aware of that there are various kinds of lying and perhaps we may even be guilty of some of them ourselves. But is lying always wrong? In some situations, it may not be. So I shall briefly consider this issue.

The first matter I would like to discuss is that people avoid hurting the feelings or upsetting another person or causing a breach in a relationship. It is said that the truth hurts. Indeed, it can be painful. From time to time men spare the truth just in order to make sure they would not be involved in any conflict and the relationship would be without reservation.

In addition, in the case of a seriously ill patient, people often do not tell a person who is gravely ill about his or her condition. They try to both minimize the actual danger and instead of depressing them, they say positive aspects of his or her health. As a result men encourage the patient to be optimistic and to fight for recovery.

Moreover, one find the truth unpleasant and agonizing, consequently often resort to telling a white lie. A white lie is an untruth or partial truth which has no evil intent. For instance some parents tell white lies to their children about sex, illness, and death to protect them against some of the harsh realities of life. Another example, people shade the truth either to gain a financial advantage or to keep out of trouble or both. In other words, they want to save money so they alter the truth.

On balance, is it ever right to lie? Not always, one can tell the truth without being brutal, or insensitive. At the same time, telling lies is often perceived as favorable thing. However, despite sometimes doing bad, men strive to tell the truth. So I guess it is just one’s own choice wherether they feel like lying or not.
