2.15 Write a paragraph on one of the following topics:
b) Interest in pop and rock in the late 60s and 70s often meant and interest in world affairs in general because many of the most popular artists were politically oriented. Is that the case today?
I don’t think it’s the same today. When we get back to 60s and 70s there were not so many artist as today. Many of them were pretty poor and had a difficult life as a children or young person. Their lyrics were mostly about their life and worlds situation. People will not ever hear about „true” politic, I think. That’s the reason why many artists send messages through their songs. They tell us how it really is. Many of them died because of those messages. On the TV you will probably hear that they died because of drugs. Many did, but many were killed and no one will ever find out who and why. They were teaching us, how to live, how to be. Some songs were pretty simple, but some had really deep meaning and not everyone could understand it. For me good example is Nirvana and the whole Kurt Cobain history. Some of his songs are really difficult to understand. Today it’s not like in 60s or 70s. Today’s stars sings just about sex, money and drugs. They are all the time in newspaper. The difference is that you can find articles about how they had fun or what kind of party they had, how many drugs they found or who was completely drunk. They are bad model for young people. They don’t teach them what is good or bad. Their priority is to make song which will be sold for good price, get top in the list, get lot of money and live like a party king. Next difference which I noticed as a little child was that new artists like Rihanna or something else, their song are on top lists not more than 2 month. The really big stars, the legends like Rolling Stones, The Beatles, U2, and Bon Jovi we can still hear them on the radio, even if their songs were made 20 years ago. It’s pretty amazing; they will be part of history, like forever. It’s all just about the money and popularity. They don’t care about the ideas, models, and community.
