THE HISTORY OF CALIFORNIA
California was founded in 1850 after the Mexican – American War. In 1848 gold was discovered in California. That resulted in the increase of the population. Then, the first pair of jeans was invented.
SITUATION
California is a very large state with the largest population of all states (3 400 000 mln people). It is situated on the Pacific Ocean. The neighbouring states are: Oregon – in the north, Nevade and Arizona – in the East. From the south California neighbours with Mexico.
The capital city of California is Sacramento but the largest cities are: Los Angeles and San Fransisco.
The landscape of California varies, however mountains and plateaus make the biggest part of the state. The climate in California is mostly dry.
ECONOMY
California is very well known for its agricultural and wine products which are sold in a large amount. In the north of the state people cultivate grapes and citrus. But the agricultural products aren’t the only products California is well known for. These are also computers which are produced there so this state is often called the Sillicon Valley.
THE BIGGEST CITIES
Los Angeles (The city of angels) is the largest city in California and the second largest city in the USA with about 9 mln people. Its area covers more than 88 000 km2. The city is famous for Hollywood, Beverly Hills and other tourist attractions. In Los Angeles you can meet many fomous actors, actresses and singers too, because the music centre of the west coast is situated there.
TOURISM
More than 10 mln tourists come to California each year. There are a lot of famous places to see there. One of them is San Fransisco with Golden Gate Bridge and former prison – the Alcatraz – on a small island in San Fransisco Bay, where famous gangster Al Capone was prisoned.
The place where the families can rest and have a lot of fun is Disneyland – the favourite place for all children. People who like nature can see many beautifull national parks with wild nature and animals. The lovers of sport can attend many sport events such as, baseball, football or basketball matches with famous teams like: LA Lakers, Dodgers or Rams.
