Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day is one of the most important holidays in the USA by the Christmas.

In the United States Thanksgiving falls on fourth Thursday of the November. It is a souvenir of the first Thanksgiving of founders of the English colony in Plymouth which arrived in New England on the Mayflower ship 21 November 1620 as the group of 102 Puritans from England. They carried this first winter great losses and many of them died of hunger. The harvest of 1621 was already abundant. Surviving colonists decided to celebrate it with holiday, along with 91 Native Americans from the tribe Wampanoag which helped Pilgrims to survive throughout the difficult period.

During the holiday Americans traditionally eat the dinner in the circle of the family and friends, thanking God for everything, what good met them. On the table a roast turkey served with the appetizer from cranberries reigns and with sweet potatoes. There are also cakes of the pumpkin or with apples. In the USA they assumed that before the Thanksgiving Day the president pardoned the festive turkey. A custom of freeing the turkey was implemented by president Harry Truman after completing the II world war.
