Subject: Is it wrong to kill animals for their fur?
For thousands of years people lived thanks to not only plants but also animals. They were source of furs, skins, bones and meat. Today lots of people especially ecologists and animal rights defenders oppose many things that people have been doing for centuries. In my opinion it cannot be accepted.
One of the common arguments against it is. It is cruel and animals which are kept for fur have short and unhappy lives. This may be true, but Chinese workers don’t live in good conditions too. And they aren’t paid as much as they should be for their work – and even the people who protest against it wear Chinese T-shirts.
Another one is unnecessary because we can now make man-made materials very cheaply. Of course, but this cheap mostly synthetic materials are not very friendly for the environment and natural cloths the compose easily. Besides we have a right to happiness and luxury and if something is legal and we can afford it we have the right to buy it.
Certainly, some animals that are hunted for fur are endangered species. It is illegal and it shouldn’t be allowed. However, this is only small percentage of fur on the market. This small matter cannot be an argument in general discussion.
Summing up, in my humble opinion in the civilised world of the 21st century there must be a place for different points of view, also for those who like wearing whatever they wish to wear.
