Etymology
From 二十日 (hatsuka, “twenty days”, jukujikun (熟字訓)) + 兎 (usagi, “leporid”). Compare 二十日鼠 (hatsukanezumi, “house mouse”). (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
