Etymology
From Aramaic דִּכְרָא (diḵrā), from Proto-Semitic *ḏikar- (“man; male; phallus”); compare Arabic ذَكَر (ḏakar), Hebrew זָכָר (zakhár) and Akkadian 𒍑 (zikarum). In some dialects this word, if not replaced by a loan word, has become limited to the senses of “male” or “ram”.
