Etymology 1

Inherited from Old Czech žíti, from Proto-Slavic *žiti. Cognate with Slovak žiť, Polish żyć, Old Church Slavonic жити (žiti), Lithuanian gyventi, Sanskrit जीवति (jīvati), Latin vīvō.
