From udhë (“way, road”), from Proto-Albanian *uj́ā-, from Proto-Indo-European *uǵʰéh₂ < *weǵʰ- (“to move, walk”).[1] Cognate to Latin vehō, via, Old English weġ. Connected to erdha.[2] Close to Greek έρχομαι (érchomai, “come”), aorist ήρθα (írtha, “I came”), Middle Irish eirgg (“go!”), German ragen (“to rise”)[3]

Alternative variant of hurdhë. From Proto-Albanian *wurdā, from an earlier *urdā or *uordā, from Proto-Indo-European *wer- (“to boil, to burn”). Cognate to Old Armenian վառիմ (vaṙim, “to burn”), Lithuanian vìrti (“to cook, to boil”).[4] Compare also Romanian urdă.
