Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *dabāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰh₂ebʰ-eh₂, from *dʰh₂ebʰ- (“to fashion, fit”). Cognate with Latvian daba (“manner, habit, character”), Lithuanian dabà (“nature, habit, character”).
