Etymology
From Japanese カラオケ (karaoke), from 空 (kara, “empty”) + オケ (oke, “orchestra”), the latter being an abbreviation of オーケストラ (ōkesutora), from English orchestra. The German word may also have been borrowed in part through English karaoke.
