From Old Georgian სახელი (saxeli), from Proto-Kartvelian *ʒ₁ax-e-, from *ʒ₁ax-, *ʒ₁x-. Cognate with Mingrelian ჯოხო (ǯoxo), Laz ჯოხო (coxo) and Svan ჟახე (žaxe).
