Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *sáras, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sáras, from late, southern dialectal Proto-Indo-European *sélos ~ *séles (“marsh”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἕλος (hélos, “marsh-meadow”), Old Armenian եղտիւր (ełtiwr, “marsh”).
