Etymology
From late, southern dialectal Proto-Indo-European *sélos ~ *sélesos (“marsh”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἕλος (hélos, “marsh-meadow”), Old Armenian եղտիւր (ełtiwr, “marsh”).[1]
