Borrowed from Classical Persian جایگاه (jāygāh). جاگه (jâgah), from جا (jâ), جای (jây, “place”) + گاه (-gâh, “location suffix”). Compare Old Deccani جاگاہ (jāgāh). Cognate with Marathi जागा (jāgā), Bengali জায়গা (jaẏga), Assamese জেগা (zega).
