From Proto-Turkic *sat-ïg-čï (“seller”), from Proto-Turkic *sat- (“to sell”).
Cognate with Bashkir һатыусы (hatıwsı, “seller”), Tatar сатучы (satuçı, “seller”), Crimean Tatar satıcı, Karachay-Balkar сатыучу (satıuçu), Kumyk сатывчу (satıwçu), Turkish satıcı (“seller”), Shor садығчы, Dolgan атыыһыт (“merchant”), Chuvash сутуҫӑ (sut̬uś̬ă, “salesman”), etc.
Synchronously, садар (sadar, “to sell”) + -чы (-čï, affix forming an agent noun).
