From Proto-Turkic *sat-ïg-čï (seller), from Proto-Turkic *sat- (to sell).

Cognate with Bashkir һатыусы (hatıwsı, seller), Tatar сатучы (satuçı, seller), Crimean Tatar satıcı, Karachay-Balkar сатыучу (satıuçu), Kumyk сатывчу (satıwçu), Turkish satıcı (seller), Shor садығчы, Dolgan атыыһыт (merchant), Chuvash сутуҫӑ (sut̬uś̬ă, salesman), etc.

Synchronously, садар (sadar, to sell) + -чы (-čï, affix forming an agent noun).
