Cognate with Bashkir һатыусы (hatıwsı, “seller”), Turkish satıcı (“seller”), Chuvash сутуҫӑ (sut̬uś̬ă, “salesman”), etc.
Synchronously, атыы (“sale”) + -сыт (affix forming an agent noun).
