Inherited from Proto-Slavic *oblice. By surface analysis, ob- + lico + -e. Cognate with Belarusian аблі́чча (ablíčča), Czech obličej, Lower Sorbian woblico, Russian обли́чье (oblíčʹje), Slovak obličaj, and Ukrainian обли́ччя (oblýččja).
