From Old East Slavic обличье (obličĭe), from Proto-Slavic *obličьje, from *oblikъ + *-ьje, from *ob- + *likъ. Cognate with Russian обли́чье (oblíčʹje), Belarusian аблі́чча (ablíčča), Polish oblicze, Czech obličej.
