Via some other European language, ultimately borrowed from Latin īnspīrō (“to breathe in”).

1. inspire, incite (to stimulate the creative powers of someone, to cause the desire to create, to work, to act)

2. inspire, inhale (to breathe in; to breathe into (something))

   inspirēt gaisu ― to inhale the air
