dreunen

Dutch

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˈdrøːnə(n)/
  • (file)
  • Hyphenation: dreu‧nen
  • Rhymes: -øːnən

Etymology 1

From Middle Dutch *dronen, from Old Dutch *drunen, from Frankish *drunnjan; the long vowel /øː/ precludes a derivation from a hypothetical Proto-Germanic *drunjaną.

Cognate to Middle Low German dronen, Old Norse drynja, and also related to Gothic 𐌳𐍂𐌿𐌽𐌾𐌿𐍃 (drunjus).
