Etymology

Disputed:

  1. From Proto-Albanian *delwa, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰelh₃- (gleam, yellow), a tabooistic substitute of the original *sóh₂wl̥, based on a color objective. Cognate with Sanskrit हरि (hari), Latin helvus, Lithuanian žalias.[1]
  2. From Proto-Indo-European *sh₂wélyos (sun), from the oblique stem of *sóh₂wl̥. For the development of the initial compare djersë (sweat) from *sweyd-, and dergjem (lie ill), from mediopassive Proto-Indo-European *sworgʰéyeti, from *swergʰ- (watch over, worry).
