Thamen

Dutch

Etymology

First attested as thaman in 1396. Etymology unknown. One tentative etymology proposes a derivation from a compound of Middle Dutch Tabe (a personal name) and *man (low-lying pasture, pool). The element man has also been read as man (person, inhabitant). Compare Bathmen, Berkum, Besthmen, Diermen, Fortmond, Giethmen, Helpman, Hertme, Ratum, Reutum, Wachtum and Wijthmen.
