Thamen
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as thaman in 1396. Etymology unknown. One tentative etymology proposes a derivation from a compound of Middle Dutch Tabe (“a personal name”) and *man (“low-lying pasture, pool”). The element man has also been read as man (“person, inhabitant”). Compare Bathmen, Berkum, Besthmen, Diermen, Fortmond, Giethmen, Helpman, Hertme, Ratum, Reutum, Wachtum and Wijthmen.
