There are historically four main forms across different languages:

  1. *külüm (smile) + *-si- and its reflexive form *külüm (smile) + *-sin-.
  2. *kül- (to laugh) + *-si- + *-r-
  3. *külüm (smile) + *-si- + *-r + *-e-.
