Etymology 1
An alternative form of *vȇrsъ perhaps a *-(s)k- suffix. Cognates include Proto-Celtic *wroikos and Ancient Greek ἐρείκη (ereíkē, “heather”).[1][2]

From *vьrati (“to shout, to lie”) + *-skъ, onomatopoeic in nature. Probably from Proto-Indo-European *werh₁- (“to put in word”).
