Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *rḗˀźtei, from Proto-Indo-European *wréh₁ǵyeti, from *wreh₁ǵ-. Akin to Lithuanian rė́žti (“to cut”), Latvian riezt (“to sprout”) and further to Ancient Greek ῥήγνῡμι (rhḗgnūmi).
