From Pre-Germanic *lh₂ewnom or *lowh₂nom (with laryngeal metathesis),[1] from Proto-Indo-European *leh₂w- (“to capture, enjoy”). Cognate with Latin lucrum (“profit, foredeal”), Ancient Greek λεία (leía, “booty, spoils”).
