Etymology

From Proto-Iranian *wáhār, collective of Proto-Iranian *wáhr̥, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wásr̥. Cognate with Northern Kurdish bihar, Bactrian οαυαρ (oauar), Avestan 𐬬𐬀𐬢𐬵𐬀𐬭 (vaŋhar).[1]
