First attested as beersdonc in 1340. Compound of a term either cognate to or directly derived from Latin bersa (“enclosed hunting grounds”) and donk (“sandy hill protruding above a marsh”). Compare Bears, Beers, Beerze, Besselaar, Middelbeers, Oostelbeers and Westelbeers.
