Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *pedรณm (โstep; bottom, floorโ), derived from *ped- (โto walk, to stepโ). See also Hittite ๐บ๐ซ (pa-ta, โfootโ). Cognates include Ancient Greek ฯฮญฮดฮฟฮฝ (pรฉdon, โfloor, groundโ), Sanskrit เคชเคฆ (padรก, โstep, footstep, footprintโ),Old Norse fet (โstepโ), Old Armenian ีฐีฅีฟ (het, โfootprint, trackโ).
