From Proto-Iranian *táwxma, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *táwkma, from Proto-Indo-European *téwk-mn̥ ~ *tuk-méns, from *tewk-. Cognate with Avestan 𐬙𐬀𐬊𐬑𐬨𐬀𐬥 (taoxman), Sanskrit तोक्मन् (tókman).
