From ἐφελκύω (ephelkúō, to draw to oneself, appeal, attract) + -σῐς (-sis), from ἐφέλκω (ephélkō, to draw in; bring on; drag, pull towards; amass, attract; trail after), from ἐπῐ- (epi-, on, upon, at, near) + ἑλκύω (helkúō, to draw, drag, pull on), contracted variant of ἕλκω (hélkō).
