ἄμαθος

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Probably Pre-Greek along with its synonyms ἄμμος (ámmos), ψάμαθος (psámathos), and ψάμμος (psámmos). Efforts to connect these words with Old English sand, Latin sabulum, and Old Armenian աւազ (awaz) are unconvincing.
