Etymology

From Old Georgian კლიტჱ (ḳliṭē), from Ancient Greek κλείς, κλειδός (kleís, kleidós) or from its diminutive κλειδίον (kleidíon), κλειδί (kleidí). Often a Middle Iranian or Aramaic mediation is assumed. A close parallel is found in Aghwan 𐕄𐔼𐔾𐕜 (ḳilṭ).
