Etymology

A word unattested in Middle or Old Georgian. Akin to Mingrelian ბოში (boši). According to Javakhishvili, from the root of the verb შობს (šobs) (whence also შვა (šva), შვილი (švili)) and the prefix ბა- (ba-) which expresses young age of a living being. Compare Georgian ბაღანა (baɣana) and Laz ბოზო (bozo).
