Borrowed from Classical Persian روز (roz), from Middle Persian 𐭩𐭥𐭬 (rōz [YWM]), from Old Persian 𐎼𐎢𐎨𐏃 (raucah, “day”), from Proto-Iranian *ráwčah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ráwčas, from Proto-Indo-European *léwkos ~ *léwkes-. Cognate of Sanskrit रोचस् (rocas). Compare Bengali রোজ (rōj), Gujarati રોજ (roj), Marathi रोज (roj), Punjabi ਰੋਜ਼ (roz) and Tamil ரோஜ் (rōj).
