Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *tawkás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tawkás, from Proto-Indo-European *tewk-ós, from *tewk- (seed, offspring). Cognate with Old English þēoh, Old Norse þjó (thigh); Lithuanian taukai, Polish tuk (lard). More distantly related to Irish tóin (buttocks) and Old Persian 𐎫𐎢𐎶𐎠 (t-u-m-a /taumā/, family).
