Probably from Old Hindi हमारा (hamārā), हंमारा (haṃmārā), inherited from Sauraseni Apabhramsa अम्हारा (amhārā), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀫𑁆𑀳𑀓𑁆𑀓𑁂𑀭𑀑 (amhakkerao)[1] or possibly 𑀅𑀫𑁆𑀳𑀸𑀡𑀁 (amhāṇaṃ), genitive of 𑀅𑀫𑁆𑀳𑁂 (amhe).
