Inherited from Sanskrit अस्मे (asmé, locative of वयम् (vayám, “we”)). First attested in Middle Indo-Aryan as Ashokan Prakrit 𑀅𑀨𑁂 (aphe). Cognate with Magadhi Prakrit 𑀅𑀲𑁆𑀫𑁂 (asme), Pali amhe.
