From Middle Mongol [script needed] (küreŋ, kürin, küren, brown), whence Mongolian хүрэн (xüren, brown). Akin to Wakhi kəráng, Pashto کرنگ (kuráng), Khowar [script needed] (kurang), Azerbaijani kürən, Ottoman Turkish كران (küran), Bashkir көрән (körən), Tatar көрән (körän), Kyrgyz күрөң (küröŋ), Uyghur كۈرەڭ (küreng), Tuvan хүрең (xüreñ), among others, all ultimately of the same Mongolic origin.
