Etymology
From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (pʾtyc /pādēz/), from Old Persian *patidaiza, from Proto-Iranian *pati- (“against”) + *jimáh (“winter”), literally "towards winter". Compare Ossetian фӕззӕг (fæzzæg), Central Kurdish پایز (payz).[1]
